The Derby is the most watched horses race in the United States and famous for The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports and The Race for the Roses.

The race takes place in Louisville, Kentucky, United States at Churchill Downs Racecourse, and was inaugurated on May 17, 1875. Since then held annually on the first Saturday in May, the race is the first leg of the Triple Crown. The Derby is known as The Race for the Roses as the winning horse is covered in a mantle of roses. Lasting approximately two minutes, the race is also called Sport's Most Exciting Two Minutes or Sport's Fastest Two Minutes.

The race was first run in 1875. Unlike the other Triple Crown races, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes, the Derby has been run continuously since its first running.

In addition to the race itself, several traditions play a significant role in the Derby. The mint julep - an iced drink consisting of bourbon, mint and sugar syrup is the traditional drink of the race. Also, burgoo, a thick stew of beef, chicken, pork and vegetables, is a popular Kentucky dish served at the Derby.

The infield is a spectator area offering low general admission prices, but with little chance of seeing much of the race. It's a place where revelers have a lot of fun and place bets normally.

Unlike Millionaire's Row which refers to the expensive boxes that attract the rich, famous and well-connected. The women appear in elegant clothes richly complemented with large and elaborate hats. The hats are also traditional and very elegant.

The race often attracts celebrities. Queen Elizabeth II, on a visit to the East Coast of the United States, was among those present at Churchill Downs in 2007. Queen Elizabeth was certainly the most prestigious guest that has ever been received in the modern history of the Kentucky Derby.

One of the most moving moments of the event is when the horses enter the track for the Kentucky Derby post parade and the band plays My Old Kentucky Home Since 1936, with only a few exceptions, the music has been played by the University of Louisville Marching Band as the horses make their way from the paddock to the starting gate.

Before the most anticipated race Derby that takes place at the end of the day, the party is composed with several races during the day and everyone can place bets on the horses with great chances of winning a lot of money, depending on the value of the bet on the winning horse.
